Our Story

A Brief History of Cornerstone Baptist Church
1   In the Spring of 1981, a group of Christians began to meet in a home on the corner of Ninth and Griffith in Terrell, Texas. After two weeks, they asked Rev. Bob Price ("Bro Bob") to be their pastor.

2 As a growing new Church, we began renting the Seventh Day Adventist Church. This facility was available on Sundays and Wednesdays. In the early days of the church, the first name was Cornerstone Bible Church.

Under Bro Bob's leadership, the group of believers felt led to affiliate with the Baptist denomination. On July 26, 1981, twenty-six people signed a plain piece of notebook paper, and Cornerstone Baptist Church was chartered as a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.

As we continued to grow we bought our current four-plus acres of land in 1986 and began building.  In Sept. 1987 we had our first service in the sanctuary at 113 Highway 205.

3 In the years since we have passed several milestones:

  • Our staff began to increase as different ministries developed and the congregation grew.

  • Deacon Families— now Small Group Family Fellowships— were started to help us envelop the whole church into small monthly fellowships to build community and minister to each other.

  • In the early 90's— our pastor sensed God leading to a "new" frontier— a style of praise and worship which blends an occasional hymn into “contemporary” music and choruses. This “freer” worship style helps the church “experience God” together and has become one of our real distinctives.

  • 4 A new Christian Outreach Center for evangelism, education, and recreation was built in 1999. For the first time the church was able to fellowship together.

5 In early 2005, we began the process of converting our “multi-purpose” building in the Christian Outreach Center into a new Worship Center. The new Cornerstone Worship Center is a beautiful edifice for worshipping the Lord.

It has the capability of using “state of the art” audio and video to enhance the message from God.

6 On February 27, 2005, our church voted to purchase 43.67 acres of property and re-locate the entire Cornerstone Church campus. The photo at the right shows the current church facility outlined in the red and the future site outlined in green. Cornerstone has already passed the half-way point of paying for the property.

Over the years God has led us to embrace our distinctive values and church mission. We believe the Lord draws those He wants to join our church on its journey of following Jesus to an exciting future, which only He knows.

Our church is still growing and maturing and we have not yet become all God wants us to be. A Key at Cornerstone is the "Experiencing God" insight that... "we want to discover what God is doing and join Him." As you discover who we are, may God lead you to join us.

Equipping God's people to become faithful, functioning, followers of Christ!
