“All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” (Matthew 11:27 ESV).

Here Jesus is telling us something infinitely beautiful and utterly amazing. Just as John 3:16 tells us that the Father gave His Son to give sinners eternal life, so here Jesus is saying that He gives us the Father. Just as the Father shares His Son with us, so the Son shares the Father with us by sharing His relationship with the Father with us. Because Jesus knows the Father, so too do all who know Jesus.

On the one hand this is true because, “He is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15a ESV)… Jesus reveals the Father to us because, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature” (Hebrews 1:3a ESV). But, on the other hand, in the gospel, Jesus, God the Son, loves us and gives Himself for us, and in so doing He gives us His sonship. Jesus takes our guilt and gives us His righteousness. Jesus takes God’s wrath due us and gives us the intimate relationship with the Father that only He deserves to have. As 1 Peter 3:18 says, “Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God” (ESV).

This is the greatest good of the good news of the gospel: that we get God. Because of the Father, we get Jesus… Because of Jesus, we get the Father… And because of the Father and the Son, we get, we have God the Holy Spirit, and He has us… The Spirit lives within us, sealing us, leading us, and keeping us until we get to our great inheritance. He in fact is the down payment of our inheritance… And the greatest part of our inheritance is eternal life in eternal joy as we bask in the radiance of the eternal glory of Christ and enjoy perfect communion with our great God forevermore.

Christian, do you see how great this gospel is, how great our God is? In His love, for His glory, the eternal God gives us Himself; and because He is the eternal God He is eternally enjoyable… all-satisfying… So give yourself to knowing and enjoying Him now, and realize that a day is coming where you will know and enjoy Him all the more. Oh, what a Day that will be…

I am nothing; Christ is all!
