From Your Pastor
Paul said, “For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 ESV). And I pray this message finds you so aware, so amazed, so moved by the love of Christ that you too are compelled and controlled by it. The love of Christ is truly incredible… Consider this: “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 ESV)… “Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:2 ESV)… “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5 ESV)… And nothing “in all creation (not even death itself), will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39 ESV).
In light of this great love, how can we not cry out with Paul, “the love of Christ controls us”?! And if we understand that Christ loved us and gave Himself for us, and if His love controls us, then we also need to remember that he died so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him… And living for Him means obeying God’s Word, and magnifying the glory of Christ by loving God and loving neighbor. And it’s in that spirit that my friend, Jake Simmons, pastor of Mission Church in Forney, and I have been praying and planning, hoping that Cornerstone and Mission can partner together for the glory of Christ and the good of people in this time of great need. Watch the video HERE to learn more. And if you are in need or know someone who is, fill out the form HERE. And if you are healthy and not at risk and would like to serve, fill out the form HERE.
Whether you can serve or are in need, the one thing, and the greatest thing we can all do is pray. Please join me in praying for the following:
Pray that we, along with all of God’s people would be assured by God’s good sovereignty. Pray that God’s sovereign grace would rid us of fear and worry. Pray that the Church would find creative ways to serve neighbors. Pray that church leaders, missionaries, business leaders, and all governing officials would have God-given wisdom in decision making. Pray for global gospel advance. In the spirit of Romans 13:1 and Matthew 22:39, pray that we would all have a willingness to follow instructions. Pray for all medical workers, for protection, wisdom, and strength. Pray for healing for those affected, and protection for those who don’t have it, that God would stop the spread. Pray that during this time of not being able to gather as a church, that we would all realize how important going to church and being the church is, and that we would take advantage of every opportunity to gather for our good, the good of our fellow Christians and the glory of God from this time forward. And most of all pray that God would be glorified in and through all of this.
I love you all! And I’m longing for the day we can gather together to worship again.
Christ is all!
