“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed” (Daniel 7:13-14 ESV).
In the Gospels Jesus declares Himself to be the Son of Man; and in spite of how this title might sound, it doesn’t refer to Jesus’ humanity… When Jesus says that He is the Son of Man He’s not saying that He’s truly man, though He is; actually He’s saying that He’s truly God… Only the Son of God, the Messiah who is truly God, who took on flesh and became truly man as well, can claim the title Son of Man. As God’s Word says here in Daniel, God—the Ancient of Days—gives the Son of Man glory and a kingdom… And this is exactly what Jesus spoke of in John 17, and what Paul spoke of in Philippians 2: that through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection He was exalted to the right hand of God in glory. And when Christ entered into glory the Father gave Him the reward for His suffering: glory and a kingdom—a people for Himself from all peoples, nations, and languages.
On the cross Jesus was slain, and by His blood He ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and He has made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth (Revelation 5:9-10). Christians, all who are or will be in Christ by faith are the reward for His suffering. We are not our own, for we were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We belong to Jesus, the Son of Man.
Through the cross and the resurrection Jesus showed Himself to be the Son of Man; and because He is the Son of Man everything we were, everything we are, and everything we will be has been transformed. We belong to Jesus, we are now a part of the kingdom of God, in Christ we are now a part of the family of God that’s made up of people from every nation and generation. Because the Son of God is the Son of Man, sons of men (and daughters) become sons of God.Praise the Lord!
I am nothing; Christ is all!
