2 Corinthians 1:20 (ESV)
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
Christ is our all in all… He is our everything! The only promise in God’s Word that would apply to us, if it were not for the person and work of Christ, is the promise of God’s wrath—the promise of an eternal hell where we who have rebelled against God (everyone) would suffer under God’s wrath forever. BUT GOD (Eph. 2:4-5)! But because of God the Son—all that He is and all that He’s done and will do—we have hope. Now the good promises of God are applicable to sinners like us. Now the good promises of God are applicable to everyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus.
Christ is our everything, and in Him we get everything. Because He came, because He lived, because He suffered, bled, and died; and because He rose again and ascended on High we can utter our Amen to God for His glory… For it is because of His glory that He so loved us and sent His Son to save us. And because Jesus is everything we have failed to be, by grace through faith we are brought into the family of God, and we are treated as true children of Abraham, as sons of God, as co-heirs with Christ…
But even as good as all of that is, ultimately all the promises of God find their yes in Jesus; and ultimately what that means is we get Jesus, and He is enough… He is better than enough. He’s better than we could ever imagine. As that hymn we love to sing says, “O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Greatest treasure of my longing soul. My God, like you there is no other. True delight is found in You alone.”
Praise the Lord for His mercy and grace! Because of Christ we get Christ… And He is better than everything!
I am nothing; Christ is all!
